As Christmas is upon us the battle of No.1 position in the charts is a scrap. Last night we saw Louisa Johnson crowned X Factor winner, but this morning UK Grime MC Stormzy announced his own bid for the race for the Christmas No.1 and urged his fans to aid him this festive season.

“Shut Up” released online back in May, showcasing his talent around basic beats and bars. The freestyle lead in the park wasn’t something his fans weren’t used to but this was sure to be one of the biggest impacts that he made on the UK Scene. The track has become one of the UK’s most memorable and definitive grime tracks leading the scene and amounting 13m views on YouTube. Spitting over the Functions on the Low the classic grime beat produced by XTC the freestyle challenged other MC’s and critics with a simple explanation telling them to “SHUTUP”. The song previously charted at 59, but since the campaign has launched we have seen the single jump a staggering 22 places in the charts.

He started his design campaign with this tweet:

Stormzy’s chances have been boosted by his performance at Anthony Joshua’s fight against Dillan Whyte. He opened the boxers fight at O2 Arena in London on Saturday and with such a reaction from the crowd it was a sure set for the rapper to be a top contender for the Christmas charts.
